It's not often that I use the term 'beautifully written'. It requires a
lot of requirements to be met, and most books only meet a few.
The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold is a beautifully written, hauntingly sad story about a murdered 14 year old girl, Susie.
Susie
was murdered in a cornfield that lays between her school and her house.
Susie is the narrator throughout the book, taking you through her rape
and murder, detailed but not detailed enough to be horrifically gruesome,
and her journey through heaven.
Susie tells you the story of her
friends, her family, her murderer and the investigation from an
outsiders point of view. She watches, trying to make contact, show them
she is there and to lead them to proof of her still uncaught murderer.
It is mildly graphic as far as the subject matter goes. There is sex and rape, murder and lust.
The writer brings each character to the heart of the book. There are no small players, everyone has a place and a reason.
it's a great read.
